October Interlude: Part 1

A reflective autumn piece that pauses between seasons to explore memory, music and quiet resilience. In October Interlude I, Doreen Mierau weaves personal observation with lyrical snapshots of family life, faith and the small rituals that steady us as daylight shortens. Gentle, evocative and quietly hopeful, this post invites readers to linger over the ordinary moments that shape our hearts.

And what a pleasure it was to reconnect with dear friends and former neighbours, to share food and thoughts and laughter, to walk along the shore at St Martins on Fundy Bay, to explore the picturesque streets of historic Old Quebec . I signed copies of my novel, The Lost Encore, and was touched by the shared emotions of those who had read it earlier, each as unique as the person.

Each day was a pleasant experience and, as a passenger on the drive, I had time to think and daydream. And I felt a poem was beginning to develop. We’ll see….
